Unleashing the Full Potential of Electric Blowers

We’re excited to introduce the MCM-33/10, an ingenious product designed to optimize blower loss while cutting down on energy wastage.

Understanding the Challenge

Electric blowers often utilize slotless motors to achieve high speed. However, these motors may have low phase inductance and resistance. When combined with Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) driven phase voltage of low frequency and high amplitude, they create a high current ripple, resulting in significant losses. These losses not only diminish the blower’s efficiency but can also lead to motor overheating, potentially affecting the system’s longevity.

Intergrating MCM-33/10

By integrating the MCM-33/10, you can significantly reduce the current ripple and optimize power consumption, leading to impressive energy savings and increased overall efficiency.

The Comparison: Blower Performance With and Without MCM-33/10

In Figure 1, we observe the phase current of the U65HN-024KS-6, operating free blowing at 30 kRPM and 24 VDC. The power consumption hovers around 29.8 W, with a substantial portion attributed to unwanted losses caused by the high current ripple.

However, Figure 2 tells a different story. With the Micronel Choke Module added to the blower, the current ripple is dramatically reduced, resulting in a remarkable drop in power consumption by approximately 44%. The energy usage falls from 29.8 W to 16.7 W, without any compromise on the blower’s flow or pressure in the chosen operating point. The MCM-33/10 unlocks tangible energy savings while maintaining the same work performance.

Understanding Trade-offs

The MCM-33/10 offers incredible advantages in terms of energy efficiency. However, it is equally important to know the trade-offs. These are: a reduction in maximum motor speed and increased ohmic losses in the overall system. These effects arise due to the additional electrical resistance introduced to the motor phase by the choke. To gain a comprehensive understanding of these phenomena, we encourage to explore chapter 3 in the Application Note for an in-depth discussion.

MCM-33/10 as a Sustainable Solutions

By reducing current ripple and therefore optimizing power consumption, using the MCM-33/10 opens up new avenues for energy-conscious operation.
